Call of Duty: U.O. - Last Updated: April 27th, 2009   Checksum... OK

The first title I ever shipped was Call of Duty: United Offensive - an expansion pack for the 2003 Game of the year.   This was going to be the very last title ever developed under the name Gray Matter, because shortly afterward the studio merged with Treyarch to begin making console adaptations of the mega-franchise.   For this project, I was part of the team in charge of the Russian campaign.   The series of missions were designed and based on the famous battle of Kursk, and the liberation of the city of Kharkov.

Kursk was one of the largest levels in the game, almost exceeding the physical limit of space to accommodate the rolling hills and distant tank battles.   The level starts on a train transporting "recruits" to the front lines, where the largest tank battle in the history has just occurred.   After defending the trenches from waves of German shock troops, the enemy manages to flank the Russians and attempts to sieze a small farming village behind their lines.   The troops make a mad dash through a dry river bed in the hope of intercepting the Germans and defending the Motherland.

Kharkov was originally meant to be played as one level, but became so large in scale that it ended up being split in two parts to keep the memory requirements for minimum spec machines at an acceptable number.   This mission started players out charging into the outskirts of the devastated city, overwhelming the entrenched Germans despite numerous lines of defense.   Roughly half the city was burning as Russian troops pushed through the smoldering debris toward the city's train station.   Once there, the Germans made a desperate last stand and were eventually sent packing as Russian armor and air support helped secure the city once and for all.

In addition to these, I worked on virtually every multiplayer level at one point or another.   The level that I was mainly in charge of was MP_Kharkov (which was eventually re-used in the Bravo Map Pack for Call of Duty 3), but I also had a hand in MP_Italy, MP_Sicily, MP_Arnhem, and the majority of original Call of Duty multiplayer levels converted to the new game types in Call of Duty: United Offensive.
